CASS Objective Estimate Release - June 30th 2005
Today the California Agricultural
Statistics Service (CASS) announced the objective almond forecast for
the coming crop at 880 million lbs.
This is about 3.5% up from the
subjective estimate of 850 million lbs. released in May, and 11.8%
down from total crop receipts for this current crop year. Many
findings in the report are in line with what many of us have already
been expecting, such as Nonpareil production being down the most
among varieties and individual kernel weight being up significantly
from last year.

MARKET UPDATE
Market has been very
quiet over the
last month. The strengthening of the USD has slowed sales into
Europe, with most of the spot demand seeming to be covered by sales
from the second hand or Spain. Sales in the Middle East have also
been very slow due to a temporary glut of almonds in Dubai. The
domestic market has been fairly active for both current and new crop.
It remains to be seen
how the market
will react to CASS’s latest estimate. We’ll post another update
in about 7-10 days, once the Almond Board position report is released
with the June shipment figures.
Best
